Some 20 garden compartments are threaded through glorious 80 year old European beech, magnolias, maples and a collection of fabulous Himalayan tree rhododendrons, all beautifully grown ,. Cloudehill adjoins RangeView and Woolrich Retreat sits in the grounds of Rangeview. Cloudehill has an adjoining nursery and there is a restaurant, the Seasons, which is open for breakfast, morning and afternoon tea, and lunch.

The National Rhododendron Gardens are host to an unparalleled variety of brilliantly coloured blooms, mainly rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, cherries and daffodils.

Designed to take advantage of the steep slopes, the 11 hectare terraced gardens of Pirianda are distinctive for their combination of botanically important trees, shrubs and perennials with an over-storey of large blackwoods and mountain ash towering over the natural fern gullies.

The sanctuary reflects a spirit of place expressed through one man’s dream. Deeply felt connections to the earthly mother and thespirit of the land are explored in 92 ceramicsculptures of people and animals which mergewith the natural surroundings: a wise elder isas one with an ancient tree, his beard flowinginto its trunk and roots; young children playwith native animals among ferns and flowingwater; and the human and natural spiritbecome one. The many linking paths through this garden take you beneath a canopy of the awesome mountain ash trees of the Dandenong Ranges. The garden was part of the historic Burnham Beeches Estate, home of Alfred Nicholas, developer of the Aspro formula. It is known for its extensive water features including waterfalls and an ornamental lake complete with boathouse.

Cloudehill has an extensive range of plants for sail from tree Peonies to rare Maples to other rare trees, woodland plants and the list goes on. For the garden lover this is a 'must' visit.

Stock is propagated on site. Perennials and rock garden plants are mostly sold. There is a wonderful collection of shade loving woodland plants as well. Specialities include salvias, epimediums, cranebill geraniums, and many rare bulbs.

Yamina Nursery is the place that the nurseries go to buy their plants. It has many rare plants. It is good to know what you want before you get there and you should check on hours of opening. However the nursery has a huge collection of plants which go far beyond what you would find in a suburban nursery and they do have a list. Their Arisaemas are excellent as are their magnolias and trumpet trees. Hidden in the nursery are a huge range of unusual plants.

Puffing Billy is a genuine relic of our more leisurely days. An historic steam train still running regularly in the mountain district. It was built to serve at the turn of the century. Join the train in Belgrave and take a picnic lunch to Emerald Lade. A marvelous family outing .

Go and catch a trout or a salmon. You pay by the weight and they will even clean your fish. There is a modest entrance fee and you can either barbeque your fish there or have a fish supper at Woolrich.

From November through to May you can pick berries – raspberries, blackberries, cherries, boysenberries at Blue Hills. This is a great outing. It is very peaceful plucking the raspberries off the bushes in the sunshine.
